My name is Suzanne Shonkwiler.  My previous professional and personal background is in music and working with children and adults with special needs, which has given me strong skills in differentiating care for each client regardless of their age or need. I look to create strong relationships with my clients in a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment. I hope to provide support and strategies for any challenges that you may be facing.

My areas of interest include working with children and adults with neurodiversity and/or developmental disabilities and their families. I also counsel individuals experiencing a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, attachment and relationship issues, anger management, parenting, and grief. I am comfortable integrating spirituality into sessions based on client preferences.

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music Performance with additional course work in music therapy. I have worked as a performer and educator for private flute students for several years. I also worked in education with children with special needs, including integrating music into the educational setting, and with adults as a job coach and community support provider. I now have three neurodiverse children of my own (ADHD and ASD), which has increased my passion for providing mental health services for neurodiverse individuals. I understand that families and caregivers of those with special needs face unique challenges, as well.

I hope to work with you to facilitate growth, healing, and change.
