Amy M Coats, MA MFT – LMFTA

Resident Therapist

We often hear that real estate is all about location.  Counseling is all about communication and education.

I have a real passion for couples who are at a bump in the road and want to get back on track. I also very much enjoy working with premarital couples. With nearly 25 years of marriage under my belt, I like to work with couples who are just beginning. There are so many things to know about each other before saying, “I Do”. I have finished Level I Gottman Couples Therapy training and am continuing advanced training in Gottman Couples Therapy Method.

As well, I look forward to working with couples who want to rebuild or tighten their connections with one another. It’s very important that couples maintain their friendship and relationship even if they’ve been together for many years. Friendship is the strong foundation of any sort of positive relationship.

I have been trained in both Phases 1 and 2 of Brainspotting. Brainspotting (where you look affects how you feel) is a way to access and process trauma while learning where it resides in your body as well. It touches on mindfulness and helps us make the connection between our mind and body.

Lastly, having lost a sister many years ago, I have a special place in my heart for grieving people in all situations. Those who have lost siblings are often forgotten in the shuffle of grief and I want them to know that they’re not alone.

Personally, I live in Lawrence with my husband. Our three children are all away at college. We have two dogs and are just getting a taste of an empty nest (I call it seasonal empty nesting). So far, we like it.

I tend not to ‘beat around the bush’, but I have been told my delivery is kind and not judgmental. Some call me blunt, but I like to think of myself as direct.
