Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
I am a graduate counseling student at Indiana Wesleyan University receiving my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy-Counseling. My specific areas of interests are in psychological and emotional disorders within couples in both the context of marriage/relationships and the family system. I value people and the relationships we build with each other. My hope is to create a safe and welcoming space for personal and relational growth.
Education: I received my Bachelor’s degree in Music and Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology from the University of Evansville. My clinical internship was at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO where I provided Music Therapy sessions to children with acute and chronic illnesses. I became a Board-Certified Music Therapist in 2018 and have since been focused on completing my graduate coursework at Indiana Wesleyan. I am also a current member of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Family/Hobbies: I love music (specifically the piano) and finding ways to exercise my creativity. My husband and I enjoy testing out new ice-cream and pizza places once a week or revisiting our favorites. One way I enjoy self-care is to go on a run or walk through the neighborhood.
Counseling: My approach to counseling varies depending on my client/couple/family’s need. I strive to promote a person-centered approach overall but often implement a variety of techniques and interventions that promote growth and change. My goal as a counselor is to foster self-motivated change that prepares and provides coping skills for all walks and stages of life. This includes understanding patterns, behaviors, situations, and dynamics that influence our relationships whether it be with family, friends, or co-workers. I look forward to meeting you!
